Building Construction Industry: Thoughts on Way Forward
PhD, Reg. Eng. (U), Chairman, UACE :
Abstract
This article is part of a long on-going effort for emancipation of Uganda's professionals
through seeking rightful participation in national activities that has particularly dogged
the engineering industry. Shortcomings have not only been a preserve of building
construction, but rather spanning other areas, including technology in general and
manufacturing in particular. Our focus here however is on building construction,
precipitated by a series of recent accidents that have claimed many lives and property.
Under construction, the perspective is to look in very general terms, at practices that
deviated from norms, starting way back in the seventies, devising emergency actions that
need to be taken to examine products of the period cited, the present, and, propose a way forward.
Should these proposals be taken as a basis for serious thought as to the way to go, it is
indeed hoped that they would pave the way for gradual re-alignment for fast track recovery
and progress into the future.
