Build and Marshal Local Expertise for
Engineering Projects in Africa

Abstract
Speaker after speaker agreed as to the need to create a capable
critical mass of expert service providers in the engineering industry from within Africa for charting a clear way forward for selfsufficiency
so crucial to beginning to create an effective effort to 1
narrow or slow down the growing technological gap between the
young and advanced nations. Near home, Tanzania is lauded, and,
South Africa and Sri Lanka are considered models to emulate.
Uganda’s efforts to reform the Local Construction Industry are
cited, demonstrating the frustration within the profession that needs
urgent redress.
